Did you know that 60% of LGBTQ youth report they wanted psychological or emotional counseling from a mental health professional in the past year, but have been unable to receive it? Or that 45% of LGBTQ youth reported engaging in self-harm in that same past twelve months?

LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning) youth are one of the most vulnerable groups in the world today. That’s why ALEX AND ANI is so honored to support The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that provides essential support to LGBTQ youth, during Pride Month this year.

As the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people, The Trevor Project works to save young lives by providing support through free and confidential programs. They do this on platforms where young people spend their time and through a 24/7 phone lifeline, chat, and text. They also run TrevorSpace, the world’s largest safe space social networking site for LGBTQ youth, and operate innovative education, research and advocacy programs.

Donations for The Trevor Project

We have partnered with The Trevor Project because their work is one of the most critical organizations supporting the LGBTQ community. I think now, more than ever, there is a push to be optimistic — but being told to feel happy can be especially hard for a person that is going through something heavy and overwhelming.

Today, we're working towards normalizing the idea that it’s OK to not be OK. Mental health isn’t just about feeling good — it’s about the difficult journey to get there, which can be especially hard without the kind of support The Trevor Project provides.

Breaking Down Barriers

The more we talk about the varied versions of mental health, and the complicated journey towards fostering a healthy mindset, the easier it becomes to understand that there is a way forward. Most importantly, we need to share with others that they are not alone.

The Trevor Project has created that space and an incredible wealth of resources for recognizing and supporting people struggling with their mental health. We must be lifelines to one another, even if we’re not directly supporting LGBTQ youth. It’s essential for us to understand the struggle, and to be allies to one another in times of division and crisis.

Every kid deserves a chance to be happy. Suicide is a deep and sometimes scary topic, but the more we speak about it openly, the better equipped we are to handle it. We are proud to support an organization that has taken on that deeply important work.

ALEX AND ANI is proud to support the Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for (LGBTQ) young people with a $15,000 donation.
