The Art of Self-Awareness: A Guide to the Sacral Chakra

Chakras are points in the human body that are believed to be centers of spiritual power. It is here that energy flows through us. These seven centers line up from the top of your head to the bottom of your torso. If a chakra is blocked or closed off, it can create imbalance and make you feel disoriented.

In this series, we will discuss each chakra – what it does, how to align it, and how to activate it. This will lead to a stronger, healthier, and more integrated version of yourself.

What is the Sacral Chakra? The Sacral chakra, or “Svadhisthana” is Sanskrit, is located three inches below your navel and on your back near the tail of your spine. The Sanskrit name translates to :the dwelling place of the self,” and this is where your abilities to experience emotions from. It is the place where creativity, sensuality, and feelings come from. It is associated with the color orange. It is also associated with water, and being in the flow of life.

How Do I Know When It is Out of Balance? Since the Sacral chakra is all about feeling, you could feel out of touch with the world around you when it is out of balance. Some side effects of having your sacral chakra misaligned are feelings of emotional numbness to everything, or having dominant emotions that impact your relationships and well-being.

Also, relying on something or someone for happiness is another key sign that you are misaligned. On a physical level, low energy, lower back pain, joint pain, spleen and kidney issues are all associated with a unbalanced sacral chakra. Other attributes are panic attacks, sensitivity, detachment, and little to no personal boundaries.

How Do I Activate and Heal It? Balancing your sacral chakra is a peaceful and awarding experience. Since Svadhisthana is all about creativity, using your creative energy would activate this chakra.

Find what creative outlet you love and lose yourself in it. Let go of the worries of being good enough at whatever it is you choose to do, and just do it with a child like thirst for exploration.

Wearing the color orange and eating orange food is extremely beneficial. Meditating with stones like amber, calcite orange, or carnelian can also help heal and activate your sacral chakra. When you are meditating with the color or stones, focus on all of your emotions you may need to release.

Pay attention to all your feelings and thoughts that find their way to the forefront of your mind. Since the sacral chakra represents feeling emotion in a healthy way, physical activity can aid in this. Yoga plays a special role in this as there are many hip opening stretches that can strengthen this chakra.

Become physically, mentally, and spiritually stronger by nourishing your chakras one at a time. Explore creativity and the power of connecting with your emotions with your sacral chakra. When you become in tune with it you will find yourself aligned, solid, connected, and at peace.
