Rachel Rafaelian, head designer of Vintage 66 by Alex and Ani hails from a long lineage of jewelry designers and manufacturers. Rafaelian’s talented designs and work aesthetic was originally inspired by her grandfather, Ralph Rafaelian, who opened the family’s jewelry factory in 1966 when Rhode Island was known as “The Jewelry Capital of the World”. Her collections incorporate castings, stones, jewels, crystals, and chains from models and molds that date back to the roots of the Rafaelian family. The success and accomplishments of her aunt, Carolyn Rafaelian, owner and designer of Alex and Ani, continue to motivate and drive Rafaelian’s achievements. Although distinctly different from her aunt’s line, Rachel’s signature retro-chic style stays true to Alex and Ani’s eco-friendly philosophy. “I was meant to be born in the sixties”, says Rafaelian, “ I love pushing the boundaries and designing for the girl who isn’t afraid to be a little bit rock ‘n roll, while staying true to her femininity.”
