New Recalcitrant Cancer Research Law

Today, Project Manager within Charity by Design Dee Fraser and Design Manager Emily McKenna attended a press event honoring Senator Sheldon Whitehouse following the passing of the new recalcitrant cancer research law. The law, which targets pancreatic and other hard-to-treat cancers, comes after Senator Whitehouse lost his own mother to pancreatic cancer several years ago. This pivotal piece of legislation is the first of its kind aiming to boost early detection and treatment while placing a greater focus on pancreatic cancer and other similar deadly cancers.

President Obama signed the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act into law last month and Senator Whitehouse served as a lead sponsor on the bill when it was in the U.S. Senate. For his support, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network presented him with a Congressional Champion Award. Also in attendance was Pancreatic Cancer Action Network President and CEO Julie Fleshman, as well as Rhode Island PanCAN Volunteers.
