In honor of the recent launch of our Peace of Mind Charm Bangle to benefit PeaceLove Foundation, we’re excited to welcome Jeffrey Sparr, Co-Founder of PeaceLove Foundation, as a guest blogger. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Sparr is excited to share some exciting ways to get involved and help spread the word.
Years ago, I painted an image that had deep personal meaning for me – the simple combination of the peace symbol and a heart, signifying peace of mind and love in your heart. I called it “PeaceLove.” Today, it is my dream that the PeaceLove symbol will do for mental health what the pink ribbon and yellow wristband have done for cancer…make it cool to support. Thanks to partners like Alex and Ani’s Charity by Design, we are quickly on our way and my dream is becoming a reality.
May is an exciting time of year for PeaceLove as it is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States. We have a couple of really cool programs and projects that we are excited to share with the community!

On May 22nd, we are hosting our 1st Annual Mental Wellness Speaker Series right here in Rhode Island. We are bringing together 10 diverse storytellers and thought leaders in the wellness space to share their stories and the work they are doing to help create peace of mind in the world. Speakers include Saturday Night Live writer, Katie Rich, Craft and Hobby Association CEO, Andrej Suskavcevic, and Alex and Ani’s very own Nicki Maher, Vice President of Charity by Design, to name a few. We look forward to celebrating their stories and work later this month!

At the end of May, we will be launching our CreatePeaceofMind.org campaign in partnership with Second City, the world famous comedy and improv troupe. The campaign will allow people to start conversations surrounding mental health in a safe and accepting environment. Through our network of partners, we will also provide creative outlets and resources to help people create peace of mind. This is one that is near and dear to my heart as I am living proof that by simply sharing your story and embracing a creative outlet, the course of your life can change dramatically. Through painting, my life has transformed in ways I never dreamed possible.
Every Wednesday morning, doctor’s orders, I get to the studio bright and early and paint. I invite you as my guest to join me at PeaceLove Studios, have fun, make mistakes, blow of some steam, and create peace of mind.
Want to help others unleash their creativity? Through December 2014, 20% of proceeds received by Alex and Ani from selling the Peace of Mind Charm, with a minimum donation of $20,000, will be donated to the PeaceLove Foundation, a creative voice for mental illness, which offers life-changing expressive arts workshops to communities in need. PeaceLove is the first symbol of hope and support for the millions impacted by mental illness.
