Good morning, blog readers! My name is Kara Turenne and I am the Customer and Employee Engagement Manager here at Alex and Ani. In honor of National Volunteer Week, I wanted to share more information about Alex and Ani’s Employee Engagement division and the work of our in-house volunteer team, Team (+) Impact.

I am excited to have the opportunity to share the great things Alex and Ani employees are doing to help our friends and neighbors in the community. Much of what we do here at Alex and Ani’s Charity by Design revolves around spreading awareness of the work our non-profit partners do, and I am blessed to be in a position that allows me to involve our employees in a hands-on way in the community.

The Employee Engagement program was officially developed at the end of 2012 after we noticed the potential we had to give back our time and efforts to those who need it most. It has also proven to be a great resource for our partners through design, as we are now able to actively work hands-on with some of the most amazing and innovative non-profits around.

Some of the larger efforts Team (+) Impact has been involved with that I am particularly proud of include a women’s home build for Habitat For Humanity of South County. During the build, a team of 10 volunteers donated their Saturday to help a team of women builders construct a home for a woman and her family that they would otherwise not be able to afford. Secondly, our nationwide efforts for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk were a huge success. We were able to enter 20 teams across the country with 221 Alex and Ani walkers raising $14,317.50 for the organization!

The work of our headquarters team and our retail teams in the community has been a spark of life into the day to day world of our fast paced company, and has proven that the most rewarding work in this world is work of purpose. I encourage everyone to give volunteering a try at least once. If you are unsure of where to start, think of something that you are passionate or wish to learn more about and start researching ways to get involved. A helping hand is the greatest gift that we as humans can give to each other, and I hope that everyone gets to experience that through the practice of volunteering!
