Guest Blogger: Jennifer Andruzzi, Executive Director at Joe Andruzzi Foundation, on Our One Year Partnership Anniversary

It’s amazing to think that one year ago this week, our Charity by Design division launched the “Positive Is How I Live” bangle to benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF). We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer Andruzzi, Executive Director at the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, as a guest blogger to commemorate this special occasion. Jennifer shares how our partnership has helped make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.

One year ago this week the Joe Andruzzi Foundation launched its partnership with Alex and Ani’s through the Charity by Design division. I never would have dreamed that so many lives would be impacted by our partnership, but the results have been incredible. We have sold over 54,000 bangles with 20 percent of the profits benefiting the Foundation. We are so grateful to Alex and Ani for the opportunity to spread our message of positivity, especially during difficult times.

Our Foundation strives to provide help, hope and a reason to smile to cancer patients and their families. We do this by assisting families with rent or mortgage, utilities or other household expenses during what can be the most stressful and challenging time of their lives. We also fund cutting-edge pediatric brain cancer research and provide emotional and social support to patients and families.

Colleen Sullivan, breast cancer survivor and (Up)Beat Outing recipient, with her “Positive Is How I Live” bangle.

This mission began in 2007 when my husband, Joe, retired from the New England Patriots after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s Lymphoma. It was an arduous journey to remission and we found that the only way to overcome adversity and maintain hope was with an (Up)Beat attitude. We are fortunate to partner with organizations such as Alex and Ani who also embody the idea of optimism in all circumstances and strive to bring that positive rallying cry to others.

Alex and Ani partners with local and national charities through their Charity by Design program. Using their beautiful, innovative bangles, they not only raise financial support, but also remind their wearers to keep fighting and never give up hope.

Designed specifically for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, the “Positive Is How I Live” bangle features a charm with the word “Positive” in languages from all over the world, transcending language and culture to embrace everyone. After all, smiles and hope are universal and we all benefit from staying positive in our journeys.

Spreading the Foundation’s mission, JAF board members and staff have gifted their personal “Positive Is How I Live” bangles to cancer patients and family members during hospital visits and (Up)Beat outings with the hopes of sharing JAF and Alex and Ani’s upbeat message. We cannot wait to see how our partnership with Alex and Ani continues to grow and how many people will be inspired with this message of positivity gracing their wrists. What an excellent reminder that we can overcome any obstacle with (Up)Beat persistence and that we have the power to create our own positive lives.

Also, today is a special day for my family and I as it is Joe’s seven year anniversary of his last chemo treatment. It’s truly amazing how quickly the time has passed and we are so thankful. With your support, we can continue to help others facing cancer and provide much needed assistance when it’s needed most.

We would love to hear and see how wearing your Alex and Ani bangle has made a difference in your life! Snap a shot of your bangle and tweet it or post it on Facebook using #PositiveIsHowILive and tag @joeandruzzifndn and @charitybydesign to share the positive impact it has made.
