Girls Rescue Center in Kenya Receives Bangles

We recently received an inspirational message from the Olooloitikoshi Girls Rescue Center in Kenya about a moving experience that they had with our bangles. Stories like this inspire us to continue our philanthropic work and should remind us all that even when things seem bleak, we should never take for granted what we have been blessed with when so many are without.

All 40 of these incredible young women received an Alex and Ani Because I am a Girl Bangle for Christmas this past year as part of a gift from two of the center’s sponsors who found them in Denver. The girls were so very pleased and surprised to have received them, as these bangles are the nicest thing that they have ever owned and beyond any dreams that they may have ever had. They love to wear the bracelets whenever they can and many times they even share them so that one girl may wear several at the same time.

These young women have all been rescued from the abuse of an early, forced marriage. Even moreso, many were rescued just before they were to undergo the trauma of female genital mutilation. The girls range in age from 10 to 18-years-old and they receive food, housing, health care, schooling, clothing and counseling at the center. The goal of the Olooloitikoshi Girls Rescue Center is to eventually be able to house 100 when the funding becomes available.
