Alex and Ani was recently featured in Bloomberg Businessweek, the iconic weekly business magazine! The article, entitled “Alex and Ani’s Charmed Life,” is written by Patrick Clark and describes our rapid growth and expansion into a lifestyle brand.
Smith discusses Carolyn Rafaelian, Founder, Creative Director, and CEO’s beginnings as a costume jewelry designer for private labels before launching Alex and Ani in 2004, naming the company after her first two daughters. He details how Alex and Ani continues to expand due to the popularity of their signature expandable wire bangles which has lead to licensed product partnerships, such as MLB and Disney among others, as well as brand extensions like the Scent 7 collection.
Smith also touches upon Rafaelian’s purchase of Rhode Island’s Sakonnet Vineyard and subsequent renaming to Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard as well as the opening of a trio of cafes called Teas and Javas, which is transforming both her being and brand into an empire.
