24 Hours In Charlottesville, VA

Introducing “24 Hours in…,” a new series to the Alex and Ani blog. We have retail locations in so many great cities that we thought it would be fun to send our Corporate Historian, Cyd McKenna, out on the road to check them out and report back about where to eat, shop, hang out, and of course, get your positive energy fix at the Alex and Ani store!

This month, Cyd visited our new store in Charlottesville, VA. Read on to find out why we love Charlottesville!

Last weekend, I had a chance to check out Charlottesville, VA, home to one of our newest Alex and Ani stores. It was a full moon, an eclipse no less, and according to lunar astrology, it was all about balance, focusing on what’s working, and pushing ahead with change. What an exciting time to be out on the road!

My first stop was Alex and Ani where the bartender, Isabella, told me how much people loved the new Light and Ignite candle collection! These candles are amazing and since they come in travel size, I bought one to light in my hotel room – Path of Life, of course, to help me get through the intense full moon. Getting grounded was definitely on my itinerary!

Candle tucked safely in my bag, I headed to the UVA campus area in search of Crozet Pizza at Buddhist Biker Bar. The theme of the weekend was balance after all, and nothing says balanced like a pizza/Buddhist/Biker spot. I sat outside and had a “Capone” pizza with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, and it was good, certainly enough to satisfy this Providence girl’s palate, since we kind of think we invented pizza up on Federal Hill!

The next day I headed back to the university area for breakfast at the Pigeon Hole. I had the Fancy French Toast that included warm spiced apples, crumb topping and whipped cream. Hello Fall…yum!

Breakfast of Champions? Yes.

A little later, I set out for my first college football game ever – UVA versus Duke. I was amazed at how many people were in the town square mulling around before the game, but was equally amazed at the fact nearly every single girl I saw was wearing tall brown boots of all kinds. Cowboy boots, riding boots, minimalist boots, distressed boots, you name it. If they were brown and went above the mid calf, these girls had them on!

Very cute! I will have to try this when I get home.

All this people watching had me dizzy, so I bolted to get some coffee at Para Coffee, which was very cool. Then I rolled down the hill to Sweet Haus for some delectable cupcakes. Call me a cupcake tourist, I think I stop at bakeries where ever I go!

Ohhhh, the choices. I had cookies and cream.

Game time, I ran over to the stadium and found my seat. What a show! I loved the marching band, dance squad, football players, cheerleaders, and the “cavalier,” who galloped through the stadium on a horse at the beginning of the game. What a rush! The energy was high and the fans were fantastic. I love Charlottesville and am proud to call it an Alex and Ani home!
