Carolyn Rafaelian, creator and designer of Alex and Ani, was born into a family of jewelers. Growing up in Rhode Island, the jewelry capitol of the world, she spent many hours in her father's factory, an experience that she still draws on today. Utilizing the family's massive archives of vintage stones, Swarovski crystals, and unique castings dating back to the 1940's, Rafaelian brilliantly turns the jewels of the past into present day gems effortlessly mixing uptown chic with downtown cool.
Alex and Ani, which is made in the USA, is named after her two daughters and features everything from feather earrings inspired by Lynrd Skynrd to spiritual medallions and, of course, the signature expandable wire bangle.
The expandable series, a corner stone of the Alex and Ani collection, utilizes an innovative patented and completely original technology that replaces traditional clasps with a sliding mechanism, making each piece adjustable. The signature expandable feature, available in everything from an expandable wire bracelet to an expandable chain necklace, allows everyone to have a piece of jewelry customized for a perfect fit.
Alex and Ani was created as a vehicle to enhance human consciousness.
